October is Mental Health month, and we wanted to gift you with this guest blog: How the Real Simone Marie Deals with Anxiety. 


As you might know, over two million Australian's struggle with anxiety each year. So we sat down with Simone Marie to provide you with some of her tips to deal with and overcome the struggle.

I have always called Perth home despite my heritage which has a splash of everything! Throw Cairns into the mix and that’s where my husband, Jamie, my fur baby, Ryder, and I are now for a short time.


I stepped straight out of high school into the corporate world where my high heels and I called Perth's CBD our runway from Monday through Friday. However, I eventually left the corporate world behind to follow my heart. And I would be lying if I said that it hadn't been a journey. 


At 31 years of age, I finally learnt to flourish as myself and own who I am. I have always tried to uplift others and with that I have decided I'm going to share my ride, and my message around mental health and what makes my heart sing. Because there is nothing better in this world then women empowering women.



So now for my tips on coping with anxiety. I personally use the following to cope with anxiety:

  1. First acknowledge that you're anxious. This is so important! And it will help you to stop fighting the anxiety feeling to go away.

  2. Don’t be hard on yourself. Go easy on yourself on the days you're feeling anxious - when your heart and head are racing. 

  3. Acknowledge that maybe you’ve pushed yourself. Or that you've been too busy the last few days. I sometimes find that if I have been busy or I have had a busy day then quite often anxiety will kick in. It’s that racing feeling of wanting to get it all done and tick off the list. But sometimes the list doesn’t all get ticked off; so we need to learn to be okay with that. 

  4. Distract yourself with something good for your soul. Quite often I’ll get in the kitchen and cook up something delicious, read a book or magazine, go to the gym, go for a walk to my favourite spot at the river, lake or beach. Or even hang out with a girlfriend. Just do something for you where you can. 

  5. Don’t forget to breathe. Quite often if I am anxious or anxious without even realising; I’ll notice that I have actually been holding my breath. Breathing is so important and so is being in tune with your body. 

  6. It’s okay to say no sometimes. Let’s face it? We’re only human and we can’t be saying yes all the time. This took me some time to realise and become comfortable with saying no. But just remember, it doesn’t make you a bad person to say no. It's about setting your boundaries that work for you, and being confident in your decisions. 

  7. Write it out. If you're anxious, write or scribble it out. It doesn’t have to be neatly written. You just have to get it out on paper. Once you have written what you need to, you will know when to stop. Then scrunch it up in your hands or run it under some water. Both are techniques of “letting go”. 

  8. Lastly, if you're anxious don’t fight it! We both know it won’t go away that easily so dance or sing it out to your favourite song. I do this driving sometimes. I'm not too sure what the cars next to me think but hey, at least I feel good letting go of that funk!! Hahaha.
